News of extra trains from Southend Airport has been welcomed by James Duddridge MP, who has strongly campaigned for the additional services.
On Monday (10th June), new Greater Anglia services began running, making it easier to get between Southend Airport and London early in the morning and late at night.
An extra service departing from London Liverpool Street now runs Monday to Saturday mornings at about 04:30am (depending on the day) to connect with early morning outbound flights.
An additional late train will also run Sunday to Friday nights, departing from Southend Airport at 23:59, for passengers landing later in the evening.
James, the Member of Parliament for Rochford and Southend East, has campaigned for additional services and described the announcement as a big win for both workers and holidaymakers alike.
Welcoming the move, he said:
“Having previously lobbied the Secretary of State for Transport, Greater Anglia and Network Rail for these extra services, this is very, very good news.
“Allowing people to make easier train journeys to and from Southend Airport will only add to its appeal, which is good for the town’s economy.”
“These new services will benefit both holidaymakers flying out of Southend in the morning or arriving here at night as well as airport staff working out of office hours too."
